The MMORPG World of Warcraft is coming up on its 10th anniversary and there have even been players (still playing) who started right at its onset. This interview, however, is with a player who started slightly more recently–only seven years. That said, seven years playing the same game means a lot of changes have been seen and a certain amount of cultural shift.

World of Warcraft has seen numerous expansions, the addition of races, classes, and even a dramatic change to the very map that the game is played on itself (see: Cataclysm) and even the addition of whole new maps (see: Outlands and Pandaria.)

With Firefall’s recent launch, it’s a good time to check in with the people who live there and what they’ve been up to for the entire closed/open beta process. While this was recorded in February 2014, and the release was very recent, the thoughts and life of Nakiato in Firefall seem still quite relevant.

Due to the constraints, I pre-recorded a bunch of game footage going to and viewing the fireworks. The fireworks themselves last almost 12 minutes, so showing off the entire set would have been cumbersome.

However, two friends and informants that I have from World of Warcraft — Nutmeg and Jason — accompanied me on my journey so I figured this might make a better documentary of how people participate in WoW‘s fireworks. Unlike other MMOs, the fireworks in WoW are not player-participant oriented, they just happen every hour.

Nyzam45 is a Star Trek Online player and a YouTuber kind enough to stop by the MMO Anthropology virtual “offices” to talk about his experience playing the game. He flies one of the smallest capital starships in the game, an Aquarius Destroyer, which is best known to many players as the tiny ship that launches from the back of the Odyssey cruiser.

His trill captain has seen thick and thin in the game as well as multiple guilds and he speaks to the social aspect of playing the game alongside friends and making videos about his experience.

This year, Cryptic Studios and Perfect World Entertainment’s Neverwinter joined into the Halloween holiday by adding some elements to the game the reflected the celebration in the Americas. While it didn’t encompass as much as others have done (such as World of Warcraft and Guild Wars 2) it had some endearing elements.

It’s expected that Cryptic will be expanding this event, but for 2013 it’s just a sort of trick-or-treat with hidden items in pumpkins and a lot of illusionists playing at costumes in the streets of Neverwinter City.
