The best MOBA in the world versus a leading sports arena action game.

The Match-Up

The final match of this MMO Showdown comes down to two of the most popular arena games in the world. While LoL dominates MOBAs, Rocket League has carved out a nice niche for itself as a futuristic sports game. However, the pioneer of a niche does not always translate into the most popular or best game. Like World of Warcraft before it, League of Legends has not only dominated its industry but has also lifted the its industry higher than that industry has ever been before despite not being the first game there.

Taken with everything else, League of Legends was just too much for Rocket League despite a valiant effort from the newer game. That said, the defending champ wins again. In fact, LoL may be undefeated since it first joined the tournament. It will be interesting to see what game can finally defeat it. Looking at the current hot games that could participate next year, Overwatch may be the only game that at least stands a chance at dethroning the dominant champion.

Comment: This is one of the most popular games in the world right now. You take place as a summoner who summons diffrent champions and battles with them in the fileds of justice.
the game is tons of fun and allows you to play a lot of difrent champions and roles. the game is mainly played in the 5vs5 mode where the objective is to destroy the enemy nexus wich is in the center of the enemy base. the more games you play the bigger level you get. when you get to level 30 you are allowed to play ranked games where the game is at a lot higher level and the game is more serious. the map consists of three lanes with three turrets each and an inhibitor behind them. when the inhibitor is destroyed the minions in the game get stronger and allow you to easily destroy the nexus and win the game. its tons of fun and adictive and i rocomend it to anyone.

Thing i like in this game is that matches are short and if you don’t have that much time this game is awesome. For example for League of Legends you need at least 40 mins. I also like that constant action.

A leading arena action game versus a leading free MMORPG.

The Match-Up

The second semi-final match will determine who faces League of legends in the finals. Although neither game is quite on the level of the defending champion, both are near the top in their respective categories. The one difference is that Rocket League has carved out quite a special niche for itself. While there are many free MMORPGs before and after TERA, Rocket League is essentially in a class all by itself.

Where else can somebody play giant soccer with vehicles? Where else can you play a fun and engaging season in a sports league on the PC? Actually this happens to be the deciding factor in this particular match-up because Rocket League and its uniqueness is more popular than TERA despite the pay difference. Yes, you have to pay to start playing, but the rest is free besides some DLC. In my opinion, Rocket League is the best sports game on the PC. The match up was closer mainly due to cost, but Rocket League is the clear standout between these two multiplayer games.

Comment: Tired of the typical MMO? Want dynamic battles against huge monsters where the basic concept is still intact? Then Tera might just be what you’re looking for.

The MMORPG genre is often criticized for being itself. “This is exactly like World of Warcraft,” it’s said, before anyone has time to think exactly the same reasoning that could be applied to – say – the action genre. In the case of Tera, the basic concept is back from other MMORPG’s but at the same time the battles and design reveals that this is something beyond the ordinary.

Tera has been marketed as an action-oriented MMO, and this shows itself in the fact that I have to aim my attacks on my own (or healing spells) to succeed. A classic, Japanese MMO feature that have not yet established itself in the western world. By lining up my attacks I can perform combos and generally the fighting feels much deeper and more entertaining than many other MMO titles.

In Tera it feels natural to slaughter everything you see. But firstly, my items are breaking after a while and I need material to repair my stuff. Secondly, I can earn incredible buffs (positive impact) with everything I gather.

If you do not have a sufficient number of comrades to clear a particular instance, you can use the game’s built-in matchmaking system, and caves and instances is something that will require some weaning from the classic online role players side. For example, you can not pass through allies or monsters, but must run around to get where you want.

After many hours, I start to get used to the battle system, but I still have to say that I really do not recommend roles like tank or healer for someone other than someone used to MMORPG’s. Other players tend to move which complicates the critical heals when it is needed most, and the one to blame will be you. Instead, choose a class with a focus to injure the enemies and learn yours and your comrades movement patterns is, in different situations. This will help you if you later choose to play as a healer.

The world’s best sandbox game versus the best MOBA in the world.

The Match-Up

The first match in the semi-finals of the tournament pits two titans against each other. Both can be counted among the most popular games in the entire world. Both are also the center of countless videos and livestreams. Each game dominates its respective genre with an iron fist. Of the two, Minecraft has expanded the most as a franchise especially after being bought by Microsoft. League of Legends has been more about the core game and competitions aka eSports.

Instead of being bought, LoL offers skins and heroes for purchase in the item shop. GameOgre knows quite a bit about that first hand as we offer a $10 League of Legends card to ongoing community members in our Game Shop. We have done this for years and can speak from experience that demand has never been higher for the card. The game also has sales to drive demand for the card even higher. Minecraft has a completely different business model because you buy it and pay no fees or buy anything from a shop. Instead of buying stuff, you make it largely yourself since the game is a giant sandbox.

The biggest advantage for LoL over Minecraft is in the competitive arena. League of Legends commands a top spot in this ever growing area of gaming. Teams from all around the world compete against each other in front large crowds. In fact, there is currently a movie on Netflix about this very phenomenon with LoL being the game that is played. Yes, the game is that big.

Minecraft’s biggest advantage over League of Legends besides obviously creativity happens to be one of the MOBA’s few weaknesses, a friendly community. Because it is so competitive, new players are not exactly welcomed with open arms. If you are on a team and somebody thinks you are not doing something right, they will loudly and bluntly tell you about it. On the other hand, Minecraft flourishes when players work together from the start because there is no competition. Even just messing around can be fun because there are no pressures. GameOgre used to thoroughly enjoy digging tunnels, filling the tunnels with dynamite, and then watching the amazing fireworks.

In the end, League of Legends prevailed by a nose. The game just has a stranglehold on its industry that few have been able to match while Minecraft is spread out over a plethora of different versions and platforms. In addition, competition in the sandbox genre is heating up with survival sandbox games like Ark and Rust. Blizzard has a great game with Heroes of The Storm, but even it pales in comparison to LoL. There is a new “MOBA” that just started making waves called Battlerite, but it will take quite some time before it would be ready to even try to rival League of Legends. Thus, the MOBA king moves on to the finals.

Comment: Minecraft is an odd game, it basically breaks every single industry “key to success” and still succeeds. Photo realistic graphics? Nope, this game could be passed off as a Ps1 game. Deep and engaging storyline? haha no… actually the game doesn’t have one. Epic combat system? Nope, swing sword hit target… that’s about it. Ok so how about a detailed environment and setting? Wellll… not really, lets just say it has it’s moments. One epic NPC that guides you with witty lines and is always trying to kill you? … … nope, in fact NPC’s weren’t added until late in development and at this point still do nothing. Sooo I give up, what makes this game so great? Exactly!

Minecraft is a game that if brought to a publisher probably would of been rejected. Thankfully it wasn’t, Minecraft is developed by Mojang which started as one man band. Notch is his internets name and he defied all odds, produced a winner and now has his own game development studio. It’s really a great story but we are here for the game so lets just leave it at. Notch made a game, it’s sold through the roof and now he has more money than he knows what to do with… all without the help of the tradition “publisher”.

So back to the original question, what makes Minecraft so great? There are millions of answers but since this is my review I’m gonna go with its openness. When I say open, I really mean open, sure it has the “see it, walk to it” aspect of all the top sandbox games but that;s where it ends, no only can you walk to anything you see, you can blow it up too. Sick of that mountain… well just take it out… ever want to dig a super big hole but can’t because of zoning laws… no problem! Dig to your hearts content, no annoying city workers here… although you should still watch out for the locals… except them little green fellas. Friendly little buggers, might even help you dig if you let them close enough to you. *trollface* O and the best part? Sick of your world… simply start a new one, everything is randomly generated so no two worlds are the same.

To know what Minecraft is all about, you simply need to read the title of the game. Minecraft is a game of mining and crafting. Your sole purpose is to survive, gather ores and build. You see you start the game with nothing… not even a hint as to what you should do. Then night falls and it quickly becomes apparently something isn’t right, monsters start spawning and 9 out of 10 times you’ll find yourself dead before dawn. So you died… you respawn, nothings changed, still no objectives, still no instructions but this time you know nightfall equals bad news. With a little help from the internets what was once confusion is now a race against time to find or build a shelter. You survive your first night, congrats!

Minecraft is a game of blocks, everything is a block and every block can be broken and placed. You use these block to build and craft, you use wood from a tree to make planks, you use the planks to make sticks… you use 2 sticks and 3 planks in the shape of a pickaxe to make a wood pickaxe. Minecraft is a game of upgrades. Your fist can’t break everyblock and is really slow… so you’ll want to upgrade to wood tools which are faster but that have limited durability so then you want to use the wood tools to get materials to upgrade to stone ones, these are slightly faster and last longer… then stone to iron etc.

Crafting a major part of the game not only for making and upgrading tools but also to get access to tons and tons of items that can only be crafted. Items like chests, pressure plates, trip wires, furnaces, minecarts, rails etc. Minecraft doesn’t hand anything to you… if you want to build it you have to make it first. This kinda sucks as elaborate contraptions take forever to build as you need to get all the materials by hand, it can be extremely time consuming but at the same time it’s extremely rewarding when your done. For those that might not have the time they’ve added a creative mode where you can get any block in the game in infinite amounts and break everything in one hit without tools. It’s a great place to experiment.

Multiplayer in Minecraft is unique. Usually a good Multiplayer takes away from the a good Singleplayer and vice versa but in Minecraft that isn’t true. Minecraft’s multiplayer is Minecraft’s singleplayer with multiple people. If you don’t like Multiplayer or can’t get anyone to play with you that’s absolutely fine, your not missing anything minus player generated stuff. However if you choose to play Multiplayer your experience can change dramatically. Instead of adventuring on your own you can adventure with many other players. Instead of one little house, players get together and build full cities. Communities have formed and full RPG style severs with real players as NPC style characters have spawned… some truly awe inspiring stuff has come out of the multiplayer side of Minecraft.

It’s not all roses though, for every way Minecraft’s multiplayer is great, it also has an equal amount of issues. Minecraft multiplayer is like the wild west, not many rules and people don’t always follow them. Griefing (players raiding your server and destroying everything) is a common occurrence, same with hackers, spammers and pretty much any other annoying thing you can think of. Mojang has taken some steps to help but it’s been mostly up to the Mod community to devise methods of warding off these troublemakers, they’ve been successful in some respects but it’s a never ending war. The only way to prevent this is making your own server and only allowing friends on it… still make sure to take protective measures though as even then you’re not safe if you leave the door open.

Minecraft is in many ways a throwback to the old days of gaming, featuring little to no hand holding, like losing all inventory items on death (5 minutes to get back to them) and no mini map or objectives to guide you. You don’t have a whole lot of health and even on easy monsters due quite a lot of damage. It’s a throwback but a whole new world at the same time. The sheer aspect of being able to do anything… and I mean anything is simply unmatched… fancy a game of minesweeper? Yup you can do that. Wanna make your own Adventure Game… go for it, thousands of people already have and surprisingly a lot of them are really good. Mods? Yup have them too.

Minecraft is the game that “shouldn’t” work with today’s gamers but it does, o it does. Well it’s about that time, I’ll leave you with the sole rule of Minecraft, always dig straight down*.

Comment: Minecraft is quite a fun timekiller. The classic version, especially, really floats my boat. Although it went downhill after Survival was released, I can always count on the original if I ever need a good pick-me-up. It’s also great to put on the computer when my little cousins come over, they love it too!

The Match-Up

This match pits two MMORPGs against each other. Both have been around for years and both can be played without monthly fees. One of the games is part of a hugely successful franchise where the other remains one of the most innovative with some of the best combat in the entire genre. The other key differences come down to system requirements and cost. Elder Scrolls Online is ultimately less accessible than TERA because it must be bought first and the system requirements are more rigorous.  For example, I can no longer play Elder Scrolls on my Alienware PC because the game requires a minimum of DirectX 11 while TERA only requires DirectX 9.  In addition, although certainly not a major factor by itself, TERA is about half the file size of the Elder Scrolls Online. In the end, TERA gets the nod in an otherwise close match due to accessibility.

Comment: Tired of the typical MMO? Want dynamic battles against huge monsters where the basic concept is still intact? Then Tera might just be what you’re looking for.

Even though the crafting system might be a little complicated and some side quests are really unnecessary and boring, the unique combat system, the adorable graphics, heavy sound, great story and almost an endless of things to do makes the game worth your time. You definitely don’t want to miss this game.

Comment: The fact that The Elder Scrolls Online is becoming an online role playing game was only a matter of time, it has always struck me as a logical evolution for the series and now the time has finally come. Even before it was released, the emotions are mixed. Many did not want to see a MMO with the fear of a generic product that would just fall on our faces as many others have done before. Fortunately, worried souls rest now – The Elder Scrolls Online looks like Skyrim, played like Skyrim and feels like Skyrim. Except that it’s online with hundreds, sometimes even thousands of players. There is quality throughout.

If you are looking for a new online role playing game, The Elder Scrolls Online is an excellent alternative. Tamriel is a huge and vibrant world with a background story that surpasses most in the industry. This is packed with engaging missions thanks to a skillful pen and relevant objectives and the battles are exciting and challenging, thanks to skilled gameplay. The Elder Scrolls Online is a successful recipe.

The Match-Up

This matchup represents old school versus new era. You could also throw in a key genre match-up as well: MMORPGs versus action arena games. However, the genre matchup would not be that close as the arena games such as MOBAs are really fire these days and the MMORPG industry has seen better days. Hot arena games include League of Legends, Overwatch, and of course, Rocket League.  In 2016, players want everything fast and competitive instead of spending a great deal of time grinding for levels against NPCs.

Both games must be bought, but are free-to-play after that. However, Rocket League happens to be the most requested game for our shop. It rarely goes on sale for anything above 50%, but that has not hurt its popularlity at all. The best deal I have saw for it so far has been in a Humble Monthly Bundle as the showcase game. Also, Rocket League has the advantage of being on Steam. All that said, Rocket League gets the duke due to being a leader in a hot genre, being on Steam, and also is developed better for competitve play.

Comment: A very enjoyable MMORPG if played in the right mindset. Be careful if you have played Guild Wars 1 and are a big fan of it, because this game is quite different and might not offer as much enjoyment as you would hope. For anyone else, this game is fantastic value and it’s still going strong despite facing a lot of critique and sabotage from dissapointed GW1 fans.

PROS: Impressive visuals for an MMORPG, solid voice acting, regular updates and content, no subscription, interesting lore and places to see and explore, great community

CONS: PvP is somewhat lacking, the main story is mediocre at best, living story content is not always permanent, some performance issues.

Comment: In many ways Guild Wars 2 is a step away from it’s predecessor rather than a step forward from it. Despite being called Guild Wars 2, other than the world and setting it’s couldn’t be further from anything like the original. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing but it’s a lot to adjust too. Guild Wars 2 is much more like a typical MMO than Guild Wars 1 ever was, a lot of the selling points of Guild Wars 1 are now gone and if you loved Guild Wars 1 but aren’t a fan of more traditional MMOs you’re probably going to be severely disappointed with Guild Wars 2.

Guild Wars 2 despite it’s massive departure from Guild Wars 1 is still at it’s core a very good MMO. Guild Wars 2 is gorgeous both in technical graphics and art direction, it’s runs very smooth as well. Latency is not a problem, although that is largely based on your internet connection, on my end it runs great and this is coming from someone who’s had problems with other MMOs. Patches are quick and painless, Guild Wars 2 has had very little down time since launch and problems have been fixed pretty rapidly. The development team has been open and continually posting new articles detailing what’s next.

Regardless of your tastes you’ll find a MMO that’s trying new things with art you have to see to believe. Guild Wars 2 is a genre changing MMO, it’s more an evolution than a revolution but I think it’s sparked a change and will have every MMO released from now on rethinking the typical MMO formula.

Thing i like in this game is that matches are short and if you don’t have that much time this game is awesome. For example for League of Legends you need at least 40 mins. I also like that constant action.

The best online shooter versus the best MOBA.

The Match-Up

The second match of the second round pits two of the biggest titans in online gaming today. They are both dominant leaders in their respective genres and both are two of the most watched and played games on Twitch. Usually one or the other is the leader as the top game on Twitch. Both also have very competitive communities and have thriving stores where players spend on in-game items and skins.

For GameOgre, both games have their own forums and we have something from each game in our shop. We have offered the North American League of Legend Card for years to established forum members. We then started offering CS:GO via a Steam gift when UGC cards were retired. However, those codes have became so popular over the entire Internet that Steam that steam recently stopped allowing CS:GO to be gifted anymore. Of course that is where sites like G2A come in.

So how do you choose one to win over the other? Well, lets break down the differences of the two. CS:GO is on Steam and requires to be bought where LoL does not. The genres also favor LoL because that is the MMO genre most on the rise right now.  Even games like Overwatch and Battleborn are shooters that use MOBA elements. The hero/skin model of MOBAs is really on fire right now. Even brawling games like Brawlhalla are using a similar model now.

Although some of the categories below could have gone either way and even a draw would make sense here, the edge is this titanic struggle goes to League of Legends by a nose.  LoL is free and leads the the genre with the best overall future. Even a great MOBA game by Blizzard like Heroes of the Storm cannot slowdown this mighty juggernaut. In fact, it is as powerful as WoW once was if not more so.

Comment: The game which took my money out of my pocket and get payed to the Steam. I am going to say something about this game. Alright so this review is based on one of the most popular games in the world. The first Counter Strike took thousands, milions of people to go crazy, but this, this is what I like to call perfection. A game that is nothing else but the whole new level of older Counter Strike with so much improvements not just in graphics, in shooting, in sounds. Evolved to the new level.

So lets start:
First of all I am going to say something about the mods in the game. You have four mods in the game, and they are kinda the same as in Counter Strike:
-Classic
-Competitive
-Arms Race
-Deathmatch

I won’t talk about the mods cause the name tells what are you playing. There are no other teams, just Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists. Valve just brought us the whole new level of gaming (when we are talking about the Counter Strike) … I remember when I played the classic Counter Strike, which I am still playing but with delays, I know that the prefered guns were AK-47, M4A1 , and AWP. Pistol: Desert Eagle. But this game just did a little turnover in the whole thing. There are no more spamming the same weapons, over and over again. This is what I like the most about the game. You now can buy mp5 or ump45 and destroy whole their team, if you know to shoot.

Also a good thing, missions.Well I only know that in the missions you just complete random quests and you get some boxes. This is what I also like. – Skins.

Skins is also a new thing placed in the game and with the skins, you are really enjoying playing the game. Classic skins are also good, but there are some skins (really don’t know what it’s called right now, but I personally love it) and the skins got the perfect marks , shades , graphics.

Alright I said almost everything what I like about this game, but there is something more that I want to say about the whole series that Counter Strike released.

So the first Counter Strike was a really bang in the whole world. I don’t the correct number was just a bomb that hipnotized the people to play it day-night. I mean there are still milions of people playing this game. Then they released Condition Zero. The game which has a new graphics level, but really nothing else besides that. So Steam took some models and made Counter Strike even better, because no one really wanted to play Condition Zero. Source is also a perfect game which is kinda similiar to the CS:GO, but is also a good as CS:GO.
To not mention Zombie mod, which brought thousands of players back to play this game.

That’s it about a game that I play for long period. Love the whole Counter Strike series. And I hope you enjoyied my review. I am going to rate this game with 10/10.

Comment: League of Legends (LoL) is a free to play MOBA developed by Riot Games. Besided that it’s free to play, you can buy Riot Points (RP) which are used for buying Champions, Skins, Rune pages and lots of other stuff. You have also got Influence Points (IP) with which you can mostly buy only Champions. You get IP and experience each time you play a game.

There are several different maps at LoL:

Summoners rift – the most standard map in League of Legends and the most played one. At that map you’ve got 3 lanes (bot, top and mid), and between those lanes there is jungle. At each lane there are 3 turrets and 1 inhibitor. When you destroy an inhibitor you will gain strong minions. After you destroyed inhibitor there are 2 Nexus Turrets, and at the end there is Nexus. When you destory Nexus the game is over and your team wins. You can also surrender after 20 minutes of game has passed. In the jungle there are lots of monsters, but the strongest ones are Dragon and Baron Nashor. Also from the jungle you can get Blue and Red buff. For taking Blue and Red buffs you will need to kill Golems and Lizards in the jungle. Blue buff is used for champions that need Mana for using abilities, but it also lowers down the cooldown of abilities, so it’s a really strong buff that you will gain from killing Golems. When you obtain Red Buff you will get an extra damage to enemies, and you will slow them down with each attack, and this buff you can gain by killing Lizards. Baron buff is the strongest buff in the game, it grants you extra damage, ability power, mana and health regeneration. Dragon doesn’t give you any buff, but he will give you money. On this map you can play Ranked games which can put you in divisions. This is the most fun map for me

Twisted Treeline – It’s almost the same as Summoners rift, but with the exchange that there are 2 lanes, and there is Vilemaw instead of Baron Nashor. Here you can also play ranked games.

Dominion – At this mode you have got to capture as much turrets as you can. If you have 3 turrets, and enemy has got 2, you will lower their nexus life points. The more turrets you have, the faster the enemy Nexus will loose health. This isn’t such a fun mode for me, and not much players play it.

ARAM (All Random All Mid) – This is a fun mode where there is only 1 lane with 5 people on each side. Also the champions are randomly selected for each player, so you might not get your desired champion if you play this mode. This is my 2nd favourite mode.

There are also few mods that are released every month or every few months. Some of those mods are quite fun for me. I mostly enjoyed the Doom Bots mode. Other mods are One for All, One For All: Mirror Mode, Showdown, Hexakill mode, Ultra Rapid Fire mode.

After this talking about maps, lets talk about Champions. There are around 120 champions currently in LoL and new ones are released each 2-3 weeks. Each champion is designed for a few roles, but not all of them. For example Caitlyn was designed to be and ADC, and she can’t be a tanky toplaner. A tanky toplaner would be Dr. Mundo.

My favourite champion is called Fizz, and he is a AP midlaner, but I also know how to play a few other midlaners, such as Morgana and Ryze. If I play toplane, I usually take Shen, Dr. Mundo or Renekton. They are all tank champions, and they’re designed to take a lot of damage for the team. If I play jungle I just play 1 champion, named Xin Zhao. I’m not really good at ADC role, so I don’t play it a lot, but when I do need to play it I take Miss Fortune. And at last, for support role I take Sona or Leona. When you play Support you must not farm, but you must help your ADC get farmed up, and not many people like that role, becouse they don’t get thanked enough.

Before you enter a game, in queue you should take the champion that is a counter of enemy one. For example if enemy team takes Fizz, you should take Diana, becouse she is really strong against him and will probably win the lane.

At early game, or also called laning phase each player should try to farm as much minions as he can becouse minions bring you gold with which you will get stronger items. Each kill is worth for around 20 minions, so it is better to farm up as much as you can at early game so that you can have a strong mid/late game. You should try to dodge enemy attacks becouse if you are too low on health you must go back to base, while your opponent will keep farming.

Mid game is time of the game where players should still farm, but they should also poke their opponents and deal some damage to them (also try to kill them with the help of jungler). At this phase you should also try to roam around the map and get some easy kills at other lanes.

Late game is when you and your team are focusing on teamfights mostly. At that phase if you haven’t got good enough items you should play more defensively then offensively. For me this is the most fun time of the game, but also the most crucial one. In 1 teamfight you can loose the whole game, and that’s not what you want. So you have got to be focused on each teamfight. You should try to take Baron and Dragon, or try to steal it from the enemy team aswell. Becouse Baron buff brings victory most of the times.

Runes and Masteries

Runes are really helpfull items that you can buy with IP. It’s not good to take runes before getting to lvl 30, since you won’t need them untill then. These items can give you a strong advantage in lane in case your opponent has got a bad rune page build. You should try to get a few rune pages for different champions.

Masteries are something like runes, but you get 1 mastery point each time you lvl up. They’re also nice to have, so build them well!

Divisions

When you play ranked games you get League Points (LP) and when you get to 100 LP you can get promoted to another division. If you are Gold 5 and you get 100 LP, you will get a chance to get to Gold 4. But you need to win 2 out of 3 ranked games.

There are 6 divisions: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond and Challenger. I’m currently in Gold division, so I’m in the middle. 🙂 Challenger players can go to LCS tournaments if they are good enough.

For the end, I’ll say why I won’t rate it 10/10, but 9/10. The reason is the community. The players in this game are extremely “toxic”. That means that they curse a lot, blame a lot, and flame a lot. Instead of having fun, many players flame at others becouse they aren’t good enough, and they can even leave the game… These kind of players are why I rate this game 9/10. So be cool-headed when you play this game and have fun! 🙂

A leading buy-to-play sandbox MMO versus the best pay-to-play MMORPG.

The Match-Up

The first match of the second round pits two 1000 pound gorillas against each other! Both have lead their respective genres for years and continue to this very day. The only difference is when each first started. WoW started with a few MMORPGs that were already well established like EverQuest, but the MMORPG genre had not taken off yet. WoW quickly took over and the raised the entire genre as a whole. Minecraft essentially brought the sandbox genre from almost nothing to a leading genre that is likely in more demand these days than MMORPGs. Besides the pay-to-play aspect, that is where Minecraft really shines over World of Warcraft and why the score is rather one-sided despite the epic feel of the match-up.

Tale of the Tape

One of the very few remaining pay-to-play games.
Has had several successful expansions.
Not as popular as it once was.
Continues to evolve with each expansion instead of just staying the same.

Comment: So this time I will review the game I played since Warcraft III. Blizzard entertainment that created this game really know how to schedule whole lore through the all expansion.

Starting of with Warcraft III, which is the only reason why WoW as we know him today exists. It was only the mask for the Wrath of the Lich King in expansion. Whole campaign has everything based on Lich King’s lore and every character that helped (tried to stop him) are there , in Wrath of the Lich King.

Vanilla – Nothing else but introduction to the game, characters, classes, Alliance & Horde. Was really good start, but it was also really buggy since they went from “MOBA” game to MMORPG.

Burning Crusade – Lore was great designed as well as the whole Outland that was represented in whole expansion. Illidan was managed to get to the top of the Outland , and he was once a great Night Elf. Also attack on ancient tree (which is only known on trailer) but in game as battle for mount hyjal is also one thing that lead Demons to defeat. But they were always arrogant and till this day, they are battling to pass in the blasted lands through dark portal.

Cataclysm – I think this was a whole turnover in a gameplay. PvP wasn’t really interesting since everyone wanted to try to kill Deathwing which is a great raid (great designed) and there I think you could visit Deepholm for the first time.

Mists of Pandaria – New continent, new character. Panda’s kinda brought harmony in the game. They are very good designed, and they are represent in game as a calm and really good people, but the Sha invaded them because of Garrosh.

Draenor – Nothing else but really getting known to the all Horde bosses that fought against Dranei’s before drinking the blood of mannoroth.

So characters are: Taurens, Orc, Undeads, Trolls, Goblins, Humans, Dwarfs, Night Elfs, Worgens, Gnomes, Draenei and for the end Pandarens.

Classes : Hunter, Warrior, Priest, Mage, Warlock, Shaman, Death Knight , Paladin, Monk.

I really like the game cause it’s open world after all. You can explore everything , have some mounts, pets. It’s great! Dungeons and Raids are well scripted, but some of them need improvements for sure. For example Gnomeregan. I hate that dungeon you just jump kill trash and thats it. But in overall they are good.

There are PvP – which stands for Player vs Player & PvE – which stands for player vs envoirement. Currently im PVE based because PvP is kinda unbalanced, but i hope they will fix it.

I’m also trying to keep members of Game Ogre posted with latest news about world of warcraft, since I am moderator, and I wouldn’t be if i don’t like this game, right?! 🙂

I just love this game, and you should too. It’s maybe about the tastes that you don’t like it. But if you starting watching some trailers, or watching some lore about the game, and once you start it, you won’t regret. I promise! So my rate is 10/10 for the best MMORPG game i have played in past few years.

Comment: WoW is a very entertaining that can keep you up all night. It’s a shame that it’s P2P but it’s probably worth it. Personally, I don’t like the graphics very much. Well I guess it’s okay but don’t really like games with ”cartoon” graphics. Otherwise in total, it’s a great game. There’s many classes and races which gives you many options on how you wanna play the game. It got really many players although it would probably have more if it was free. But still a great game.

A leading buy-to-play MMORPG versus the current best sci-fi MMO.

The Match-Up

The last match of the first round pits two leading (once highly anticipated) MMORPGs from considerable franchises with two different paying models. Each game now takes an alternative to the exceedingly less popular pay-to-play model after first starting with that model. While The Elder Scrolls Online takes the somewhat newer path of charging for the game but not a monthly subscription (although there is an option for one), Star Wars The Old Republic makes use of a limited free-to play version that has worked well for years while still having pay-to-play options available.

The first round ends well with this match as it was very tough to determine a winner here. Both are high quality, have amazing player worlds, and avoid the ghastly required monthly fee of doom. In the end, the less clear model and restrictions of SWTOR led to its defeat here. TESO moves on to the next round and that concludes the first round!

Whether The Elder Scrolls Online is worth the monthly fee is a question that is left unanswered, the future is something that I do not have insight in. Before the game was released it was declared as a flop from many places online that just seems to believe in the widespread free model. But you must not forget that The Elder Scrolls Online is an online role-playing of very good quality that doesn’t mimic the Titans, but instead leans against the acclaimed Skyrim. The result is an online role-playing game of top class, which can be enjoyed either as a group or on your own. Now just to see if The Elder Scrolls Online gets the audience it deserves.

Comment: Plentiful contents, but it’s really pay to win if you wish to finish most of the quests especially the side quests.

Optional side quests requiring a team of two or more players are more difficult to complete, which is where the pay to win comes in.

The paramount of Old Republic is of course the old light side vs. dark side alignment system, that’s built over time from the player’s choice to deal with every situations in the form of dialog options.

Each alignment side gives exclusively countering benefits, gives player even more tweaking flexibility in building up the character’s powers.

The latest addition was the starfighter PVP combat, and this is yet to be seen whether it will attract new players to the fold, or will it just be another outlet to squeeze more cash from players.

Comment: SWTOR is simply a great game.. If you like games in the MMORPG genre then SWTOR is a game that must be in your game collection. The game has a conversation function which is a funny thing because you get to choose your own answers and build your own reputation based on your answers. The graphics are really well made and gets even better with the settings on medium or high. It’s P2P though although that’s not a big problem since it will become F2P soon xD Something negative about the game is that when you play with an old computer you won’t get the best gaming experience. So to get the best possible experience you shouldn’t have an old computer but a computer that you can play the latest games on.

The Match-Up

The seventh match of the first round pits two different genres and pay models against each other. However, both games have one thing in common: different experiences from normal MMOs. TERA has innovated the free MMO genre while Rust has been an innovator among survival sandbox games. In fact, Rust and Ark are among the very few games in the genre without a great deal of hatred. Unfortunately, that is what allows TERA to slide by Rust in this match. The survival sandbox games simply do not have the same continuity as MMOs and this shows with angry players who end up quitting because one other player or group of players throws their game out of whack.

The world that Bluehole Studio created using the Unreal Engine is a dazzling beautiful one. As a beginner in the game, I was introduced what the beautiful fantasy online game could offer, feature for feature. If I jump forward a bunch of hours, I’ve reached lvl 20 and I’ve beaten my way through hordes of enemies and find myself at the end of a mission chain where you have to defeat a massive boss.

Up until this point in the adventure, I had no idea what my actual role to the other players will be, but here I have to decide if I want to tank, heal, throw spells or stab enemies through life.

The quest system in Tera is very similar to Star Wars: The Old Republic where I get to choose what I want to do and don’t need to focus on the main story. The side quests will help me in the form of extra experience points and equipment, and also offers a complimentary experience that takes the edge off the drama a little – a critical aspect of a MMO who must feel alive and dynamic.

The side quests are for the most part to gather something or kill a certain number of enemies. To make this easier, you are shown exactly where the objects or enemies are on your map. In addition to this arch-classic type of quests design, I’m also offered in much more interesting variants where I can be pressured by the time or in an ambush where you have to hold out when the waves of enemies flooding towards you.

Initially, I only travel by either running from town to town or teleport me from places I have already discovered. Later, at level 11, I can purchase a mount that makes the traveling far more comfortable. Besides, it’s awesome with lions and horses. On top of that, I can start to save up for a flying pegasus when I reach the game’s capital.

It will be interesting to see what role these buffs will play in the real challenges later in the game, but right now it is simply too early to say anything.

If you do not have a sufficient number of comrades to clear a particular instance, you can use the game’s built-in matchmaking system, and caves and instances is something that will require some weaning from the classic online role players side. For example, you can not pass through allies or monsters, but must run around to get where you want.

Add to that the fact that you have to aim to hit your target and you have a whole new kind of challenge ahead of you. Aiming and coordination skills suddenly become at least as critical as the items you have managed to accumulate, and it is not certain that the players that have played TERA the longest will be the strongest.

It doesn’t matter how you look at it. TERA is a strong newcomer in the role-playing genre. During the beta period, it looked quite bad sometimes, but now that the game is finished and released, it is clear that Bluehole Studio managed to get the game back on track in the end. It has infinite potential, thanks to a unique combat system and inviting, warm graphics that refuses to let go.

Even though the crafting system might be a little complicated and some side quests are really unnecessary and boring, the unique combat system, the adorable graphics, heavy sound, great story and almost an endless of things to do makes the game worth your time. You definitely don’t want to miss this game.

Comment: Alright, i played this game for like one year with my friends, and i did enjoyed playing it. I will discuss about why.

So i would like to say that this game is similiar to the Minecraft that i also used to play, and the difference between this games are that you don’t have to dig holes to find mines – they are randomly spawning on the ground. Then you have a pile of woods which is also good because chopping the tree takes a lot of time and energy, which comes with losing food. Also the difference is that you play realistic game where you have a really good graphics and good shaders, and minecraft is like 2D game that makes a really great difference between this two games.

So your priority is to make your fortress and to find the materials that are needed to build your fortress. And also to not mention that there are thousands of animals waiting for their pray to show up. You are using only axe and pickaxe for taking resources.

There is a zone that offers you to find guns, armors, and more crafting material. That zone is called Radioactive zone. You have suits for decreasing the radioactive attack on your body. That zone is also crawling with animals – radioactive animals. You can find munition, blueprints, etc. For most stuff you need a blueprint and a thing that you want to craft enormous times.

This game is really good until someone finds your house and start killing one by one. There is not much prevention you can do – only to hide in your house and prey he don’t call his crew to bring C4 and ruin your house. But until that you can have fun finding materials and building house. I watched some guy on youtube while playing this game and i was like – what the heck, i will give it a try. And we really enjoyed playing this.

The Match-Up

The sixth match of the first round pits two recent yet very different games. While Rocket League innovates with a fun twist on soccer/football, H1Z1 is one of the most popular survival sandbox games but with an all too familiar zombie theme. Another difference is that Rocket League is generally acclaimed and H1Z1 has a bit of a mixed community in terms of well it is received. Both have competitive aspects, but Rocket League just has too much going for it to lose this match.

Thing i like in this game is that matches are short and if you don’t have that much time this game is awesome. For example for League of Legends you need at least 40 mins. I also like that constant action.
